The Cove's Back-To-School Ice Cream Social

I can't express enough how much I love the neighborhood we moved into.  Everyone is so nice and helpful.  They plan events for the kids and adults such as Easter egg hunts, movie nights (kids and adults), swim parties, girls' night, wine parties, 4th of July get-togethers, cookouts, talent shows, and a back-to-school ice cream social!  I'm sure there are other events as well, we just haven't gotten that far into the year yet.  You really get a sense of safety, community and strong friendships here.  We even have our own private neighborhood Facebook page for all of us to communicate.  All the kids play well together, too!

They had flyers made for this year's Ice Cream Social event to put in everyone's mailbox.  The kids were excited to get their hands on some ice cream and play with the other kids.  They had books to read and bubbles galore.  Everyone, including the adults, had an awesome time!  I took a few pictures, but I was too busy watching the kids and socializing.

Little Drivers

Liam, Madison and Cali were rocking the battery operated vehicles.  I sat and watched while they made their laps around the yard a thousand times.  During the ride, each one would hop out so another could hop in and then drive off at a speed that a Nascar driver would be jealous of.  They weren't wasting any time, that's for sure.  Liam also made a new friend this week.  His name is Reed and he will also be in second grade.  Yay!  They get along great and that makes me happy!

When we lived at our old home (this is still weird to say), Landon had more friends his age.  Liam just had to tag along when they got together or he would just stay home.  Now it's the opposite.  Liam has more kids his age and Landon has a select few that he hasn't met yet.  The girls and I have talked about getting our older kids together (some play soccer too) so they can finally meet.  Once that happens, it will be golden!  I can't wait for them to make even more friends in school.  Our neighborhood Ice Cream Social is coming up so maybe that could be a good opportunity?  We shall see.

The chairs and flags were from the night before when our neighborhood had a big display of fireworks (and drinks).  Ha!

Madison and Cali are either in their pajamas or a princess/costume dress every time I see them.  It's their thing.

The Builder Of Planes

Liam gets quite a bit between Christmas and birthdays.  Sometimes things get put aside for a long time and then somehow they magically appear.  Well, this little building kit did just that.  Poof!  Liam brought the kit to me and asked if he could get it out of the box.  He also asked for some assistance.  We took the pieces out and began to read the directions.  Around this time Landon joined in and participated.  He read the directions and helped put the pieces together nicely on the floor.  It was great seeing the boys work together, but then Liam lost his mind (he was tired) and the project got put on hold for another time.  Oh well, it was cute while it lasted.

You'll have to excuse Landon's hat (you will see it often).  I think he's going through an Indiana Jones/Crocodile Dundee phase.  Who knows.

And then later we had a storm.  These suckers are really difficult to catch!

Liam's Photo Shoot: Finn and Ken

First, Liam and I ran up to the store to get a few odds and ends when he noticed a Finn doll from the movie, "Star Wars: The Force Awakens".  He swiped him up and convinced me that he had to have it.  Being a mom is so tough sometimes.  Those sweet faces...ugh.  So, I caved.  Leaving the store, I felt like I had just ended world hunger.

When we got home, Liam had to rush downstairs and show his grandma what he got.  My mom suddenly remembered that my sister had brought over one of my old Ken dolls that got stuck in a box.  When Liam saw it, he gasped in shock that grandma had another doll that was the same size as Finn.  He asked to play with it, but when I turned around, I noticed he was naked.  I asked Liam, "Where did Ken's clothes go"?  He casually replied, "He doesn't like clothes.  He wants to be naked."  My mom and I looked at each other and giggled.

Liam requested that I take pictures of his new dolls and some of him with them - a photo shoot, if you will.  I died inside from the hilarity, but maybe cried a little too.  It was the cutest thing knowing that my son wanted his photographer mom to arrange a photo shoot for his "babies."  I couldn't resist looking like a complete fool in front of my new neighbors.  I mean, taking pictures of Barbie dolls in the public eye really isn't all that common, ya know, and maybe a tad bit strange.  We had fun and Liam was a very satisfied customer!  Oh, and I told Liam that if we were going to photograph Ken, he HAD to have his clothes on.  Speaking of weird...

Liam didn't like the way Ken's head was positioned so he fixed him.  "No, Ken, you have to look at the camera."

But then Finn looked like he was rolling his eyes at me at times.  "Whatever, man.  Are we done yet?"  I was starting to think he wasn't as enthusiastic as Liam or Ken.

One little happy family!

Then there were some silly moments.  Aren't there always?
