Family Time at the Park

Aaron and I took the kids out to eat and then to the park yesterday.  They needed to burn some extra energy they had tucked away before heading back to the house.  Since it had rained earlier in the day some of the slides were a little wet at the bottom.  Still didn't deter our seven-year-old from giving it a go.  His butt was soaked, which made him look like he had an accident.  Liam thought it was hysterical.  "Look, I peed out of my butt."  So funny.  I adore that child.  Aaron and I enjoyed planting our overgrown fannies in these little buckets that spun.  Oh, dear.  As I was getting the hang of it, Liam came over and started spinning me even faster.  This is where I started to turn green.  These are definitely not built for the older kids.  I didn't feel so bad, though.  Ya know, being an oldie.  Landon spun for awhile and then laid on the ground for a few minutes.  The next thing I noticed is that he was stumbling to the car.  I think his poor 12-year-old body had had enough of the spinning.  I don't blame him.  That can really ruin a person's day.  He took a rest and then he was fine.  A few minutes or so after that, we headed back home to recoup.  It was a fun, relaxing day with the boys.  We even had our first fire of the season.  I love those moments we get together.

Oh, these were all taken with my cell phone.

Soccer, Maybe?

Every kid has their own thing that they really enjoy.  Some like baseball or football.  Some like wrestling or basketball.  Maybe it's something that doesn't have to do with sports at all.  I think Liam is favoring soccer.  I'm still unclear if it's because his brother played or perhaps he just likes kicking a ball around.  He will use his hands so we're still working on that.  I guess we will see how things go, and hopefully he will tell us when he is ready to expand his horizons.

Liam: "Mom, look at my balls!"
Me: [nervously turns around] "Umm, those are nice, Liam." [facepalm]
Liam: "Yeah, and they're big, too!" [dies laughing]

We took a break so I could cut Liam's hair and get him in the bath.  This is why his hair looks different and why he is wearing different clothes.

For the Love of Trains

Just when I thought Liam had moved on from one obsession to another, I was completely deceived.  Trains are still a big love in our home.  We got rid of our train table this year to make room.  I thought Liam was going to have a fit.  For the longest time, the boys were using it as something other than what it was supposed to be used for - a place to put everything but trains.  I got tired of the piles of messes, so we decided that it had to go.  I was a little hesitant at first because I knew Liam loved the train table, but it wasn't getting used properly and finally convinced Liam of that.  Everything was all good and calm so I suddenly felt better about the decision.  I don't have any regrets.  We have tubs of toys, including trains and train tracks, that we keep tucked away for when the boys are ready to play.  This time, the trains came out.  Liam came up to me and asked if he could take his tub outside.  He said he wanted to make a big track for his train car.  Well, who am I to keep him from having a little bit of fun before the sun went down?  We swooped out the door and planted our butts on the driveway.

Liam was telling me how dirty his feet were.  "Oh yes, Liam, your feet are so filthy my eyeballs just can't take it."  Liam giggled.
