Trick-Or-Treat, Smell My Feet...

Well, here we are again.  Only the kids are bigger and the costumes are scarier.  Aden's costume was a hit, despite the long johns he wore over his actual costume.  The Blue Man Group is apparently a very popular thing around here as well.  He scored several pieces of candy because of it.  There were also quite a few Walking Dead fans on the street.  Landon and Liam were so excited to get extra candy for their costumes.  Some people even asked Liam if he would pose and groan like a zombie - definitely the life of the party.  This year was so laid back.  With four boys running from door to door that never happens.  And let me just say that I loved the weather this year!!  Finally, a break.

We came back to our house and had chili and grilled cheese sandwiches.  We were all starving so it was quite a treat.  I was surprised the kids had any after dipping into their candy throughout the night.  The chili hit the spot, and then we made a fire for roasting marshmallows.  I'd say this year was most definitely a success.  Can't wait until next Halloween already!

Liam really enjoyed being in control of the wagon.  Sounded to good to us!

And they found friends!

I loved how the people who were giving out candy dressed up!

I Heart Fall

Fall is by far my favorite time of the year.  Well, unless you live in the Ohio Valley like us and fall can feel like cold, wintery days...or even summer.  The bright leaves make me happy.  The only time I can tolerate the smell of apple scented candles, cinnamon, or anything pumpkin.  The perfect time for spare blankets to come out of the closet for snuggling next to a bonfire.  Roasting marshmallows is a favorite in our home.  I get to wear my riding boots and sweaters.  The only time I crave warm apple cider and peanut butter fudge.  I just love this season.

My trees are changing in our yard.  Somehow we ended up with berries on one of our trees and not the other (even though they are the same type of tree).  I'm starting to think that they labeled this one wrong, but still pretty.  As I was exploring the changes in plants and such Liam followed me outside to play.  He told me that he liked the cooler weather because he gets too hot.  Maybe the apple doesn't fall too far, eh?

Happy 12th Birthday!

Having a birthday fall through the week is cool because you get to celebrate at school, but it stinks because you have to wait until you get home to open presents.  Landon surprised me by plopping on our bed and watching cartoons.  I asked him, "Did you forget that it was your birthday?"  I guess the second part to what I said above didn't apply to him this time around.  He responded with, "Oh yeah!", followed by a chuckle.  Seriously, kid?  I didn't start acting as if birthdays weren't a big deal until after I turned twenty-one, or maybe twenty-five, when my car insurance was supposed to go down.  After that, it was...eh, who cares.  But, when I was his age?  Heck yeah!  I was all about turning a year older and getting goodies.  I couldn't wait to get home to see what I got!  I guess boys are different, or it could be that he is just that laid back.

I love how low-key these moments are with him now.  He doesn't ask for much, and like I mentioned above, he doesn't seem to mind just chilling out and doing his own thing like any other day.  He does like time to himself a lot.  He has reached that age where he disappears to a vacant room to unwind.  He asked for toy guns this year so that is what he got.  He also got an MP3 player.  This kid can rock out to music like nobody's business.  Definitely my music buff.

Happy Birthday, Landon!
