Pining For Pine Cones

When Landon arrived home the day that Liam and I went for our walk, he noticed two pine cones sitting on our counter.  Striking his curiosity he asked where they came from.  I told him what Liam and I had done that day and then he wanted to go.  He mentioned putting the pine cones on our Christmas tree.  About the time that we were heading out the door, a friend of Landon's came by to ask if he could play.  A light bulb went off and asked her if she wanted to join us.  It's great how something so simple can be so fun for all of us.  While we were picking the pine cones Liam met a new friend.  He was so sweet with the cat.  He would lay or sit next to it and pet it gently.  Contrary to popular belief, he is a gentle child.  He's so sweet and loving.  He sat with the cat and played with his tail for the longest time.  The cat loved it.  Since we're not cat people he hadn't been around one and I wasn't sure how he'd react.  Would he be scared?  Would he be rough? Nope.  He always seems to amaze us, and having a little faith in him does wonders.  He was so happy and proud all at the same time.

We filled the bags with all kinds of different pine cones and walked home.  Liam is a hands-on kinda' kid who always wants to help.  He took the bag from his brother to help him out (and to feel important, of course).  About half way home, he looked at me and said, "heavy", so I carried it the rest of the way.  The kids had a great time.   I need to find more of these simple things to do!  And, nobody or nothing was harmed!  Okay, okay, maybe a pine cone or two.
